Barili is known in delicacies, historical icons, and festivals. Like other places, Barili had its own story why it is called Barili. There are two versions about the name of Barili, one is that there are many barilis (fish) in the river. There is one version or story that the people in barili believe. Long ago, a couple lived in a mountain where beside their house was a vine plant called BALILI. One day, a group of Spaniards came and one Spaniard is confused of what plant he was holding and suddenly he ask what is the name of the place, because of their language the couple couldn’t understand, they thought that he asked the name of the plant, so they answered Balili. It became BARILI because it is easy to pronounce by the Aliens.

Barili is a second class municipality located 61 kilometers south of Cebu City, at the southwestern part of the province of Cebu facing Tańon Strait. It has a total land area of 11,715 hectares and it has 42 barangays and in some barangays has its own museum.
Barili is blessed with soil that is rich and fertile. Thus, Barili has large tracts of productive farmlands, o “KAUMAHAN”. Barili is traditionally considered an agricultural community; engages in the planting of corn, rice, coconuts, fruit trees, root crops, vegetables and other plants and reeds used in making native products and ornamentals. The KAUMAHAN FESTIVAL is a cultural celebration that was launched in July 2007 under the administration of Hon. Teresito P. Marińas M.D. It is held every 26th of July on the occasion of our town fiesta in honor of Patron Saint, Seńora Santa Ana. Through the years fiesta celebration brings many blessings to the people. Relatives and friends come and enjoy a festive reunion with their respective families. Devotees from other places, far and near come on July 26, the feast day to attend the Pontifical Mass and renew their vows to come to Barili every feast day of Santa Ana as long as they live.
Barili has its delecacies, the pinyato, rilyeno: mongo and bihon, and salbaro. We also have these native products made of Pangdan and Buri for hats, mats, bags, tsinelas, and decoration purposes.
The Barili’s premier landmark which is the Mantayupan Falls, a 98 meters high and has two levels with three cascades. The Boloc-boloc Sulfuric Swimming pools, AC tilapia Fun Fishing, Molave Milk Station and Dairy Farms, Sayaw beach and other beaches owned by some respectful people in Barili. Aside from these we also have the accommodations for your relaxation and parties. The Shamrock, Palalong Place, Luhod Mountain Resot and the Villa Elliton.
